How to cover tile?
We moved into my parents house after my father passed in 2016. Dad's response to any comment regarding needed repairs was "I 95 years old, what do I care" the kitchen has yellow square tills and I don't have the budget to replace. Can I do peel and stick: tiles(?), contact paper(?), Paint(?).

You can do all. First you really have to get them extremely clean for any thing to stick. Peel n stick and contact could melt behind stove. I would go for paint. For the most durable use the epoxy kits sold at Home Depot or for a less expensive fix you can just paint with oil based paint once tile is clean. Good luck.
You can paint the tiles and do peel and stick for sure!
If the tiles are vinyl you can go with peel and stick or paint. If the tiles are ceramic you can paint. Imperfections and grout lines would transfer to peel and stick.

Peel and stick decals are cool but add up super fast. I stencil painted a bathroom floor of ours inexpensively but the same method applies to a kitchen. You can see how I did it here: https://www.flippingtheflip.com/2019/03/how-to-stencil-paint-ceramic-tile-floor.html
You can definitely use peel and stick tiles. They come in so many cool designs now.
