Fill in grooves on table top before painting ?
I have a table that has grooves on top like paneling - they tend to trap dirt. How can I fill them before painting?

You can use some wood filler and then sand once it's dry. Make sure you buy wood filler that can be painted.

Help! How Do I Fill In The Groves On This Table?
Buy a tube of wood filler that is labeled 'paintable'. Fill-in the grooves and sand them smooth before painting.
When we painted our paneling on the walls, we filled it with caulking and painted with Kilz aroma free primer. Then painted the color we wanted. It was easy to do and the primer covered it perfectly.
Those grooves can be filled in with paintable wood filler. Sand well along with the table and be sure it is perfect before priming and painting. After painting no one will know the groves were there!
You can use a wood filler like this: https://amzn.to/2X6Icqu. Let it dry for 24 hours and sand it so the table is all flat. Then go ahead and paint.
Hello Jill,
Yes wood filler is the way to go. Comes in different colours if you want to keep the wood look. Rub down when completely dry........
If you want something really hard to fill the gaps use Bondo, then sand it down and paint the table.
There is always a chance for the wood filler of crumbling and popping out. Especially in shallow grooves like you have. I would use Bondo, auto body filler to fill the grooves.
Durhams' putting, mix it thin and pour in. Rub it good so that it fills in well. Then wipe with wet cloth after it dries. You may need to re apply due to air bubbles.
