I know they sell mason jar coin lids on Amazon. I think they're like $10 for a set of 6...hope that helps!
You can find plastic screw cap lids for mason jars at Walmart, no need for the metal ones. For the coin slit, use a hot Phillips screwdriver and melt your way through.

Hello Martha,
Remove the lid and place it on a scrap piece of timber. Punch a slit hole in it by using a chisel., When gap is wide enough, turn lid over and knock flat the raw edges for safety using a small hammer. Happy saving........
Stab it with a knife and fold any rough edges below. You could also add some tape to cover any shape edges.

Remove the flat and then you can cut a hold in it. Make sure to cut from the top so the edges are pushed to the inside of the jar. Replace flat and ring.
You can use a flat head screw driver to make a slit in the top, Turn the cap over and make sure there are no sharp pieces.
