Shopping Your Home- Giving New Life To Furniture
Since staying at home had become the new normal, I've been shopping my home. I'm trying to find things to DIY, or give a fresh new look to.
I have an old dark brown painted bench made by my father in law over 30 years ago. It currently collects toys in my son's room, where I hid it because it just didn't match my decor.
I decided it is actually a great bench, if I could strip the paint and stain it new.
I am so happy with how it turned out.
Because of Covid, I used the only paint stripper we had on hand which was a gel, a paint brush, gloves, a face mask ( very strong smell) , metal can to pour the paint stripper and paint scraper.
Poor the paint stripper into the metal can. Dip the brush into the paint stripper and then directly onto the wood, I laid it on pretty thick. Rub the paint stripper in the direction of the wood grain.
I used plastic wrap to cover the area. I don't know how much this helped, but I read to ft o this step to speed up the music, although it still took about ac n hour until it was ready to be scraped off.
After scraping off the paint, it still needed to be sanded down.
I save all my socks with holes to use for rubbing the stain on. I dip the sock into the stain and apply it directly on the surface , in the direction if the wood.
I love this new look. I styled it right away. And now this beauty has new life to her.
I'm so glad that I was able to find a new use for this memorable piece of furniture. It is so easy to give New Life to furniture by stripping the paint, refinishing it and applying new stain.
It really seems to fit my Decor perfectly now. Let me know what you think.
