Diatomaceous earth works for this !!! And it has tons of other uses for around your home , both inside and outside . I bought organic food grade type from Amazon for around $10 . Good luck !
The best natural preventative I've found is our chickens. We haven't found any ticks in the yard since getting chickens.
thanks , that sounds awesome but i live in the city
Pennyroyal. I lived in Florida and battled fleas and ticks. Pennyroyal is a natural herb. Boil water and about a cup of pennyroyal to 32 oz water. Spray dog every time your dog goes out. You can use it on yourself as well.
If you plan to use natural products on your pets PLEASE monitor/check their coats on a daily basis and after each time you take them into a tall grass or wooded area for any ticks. Some ticks are so small that you can't see them especially if you have a long coated pet. Think "sesame seed" size or smaller. Natural products are great BUT they don't work as well (if at all) for ticks and mosquitoes compared to the professional chemical products. As a dog owner I too tried more natural products in the past and found they were lacking in protecting my dogs from tick borne and mosquito borne diseases. Each one of my three dogs tested positive for Lymes several times and I had to treat them with antibiotics for several months. One dog also developed Anaplasmosis that we were unable to clear from his system for the rest of his life--about 10 years after it was discovered. That took MANY rounds of antibiotics over the years because each year at some point he would get sick from the bacteria circulating in his system. If we had not taken care of the anaplasmosis with antibiotics it would have eventually killed him. I did go back to using chemicals and as a result my dogs stayed Lyme free and were healthy regardless of the tick medication. It's a hard choice to make but I found after a few extra vet trips with sick and lame dogs plus the cost of the medications that it was better for me and my pets to find something that worked more effectively. I hope you don't think I am lecturing you--I am not--I just wanted to share my personal experiences with trying out natural products on my pets.
We just buy a 3-month pill on line. Vet will give you prescription.
I think you need to trust the vet and use meds for this
it's true ,thank you, stay safe....!
Just like GK, we went through many options over the years for our dogs. At this point just about each dog receives a different remedy due to age and health concerns. For the smallest dog, I have a prescription that I have mixed at a compounding pharmacy. Her mouth is too tiny so she gets an oral liquid that she takes (easily) with a syringe - she also has thyroid meds she takes. The others receive a pill in varying strengths. Work with your vet to see what is most effective for your dogs.
Nothing natural works well. I use Advantage and it does work. I get it from petsmart
Talk with your vet. We mail order Bravecto (sp?) and 1 pill protects for 3 months.
Hi Roxana, Eucalyptus oil is known as an effective tick repellent and killer. Just combine 4 ounces of purified or distilled water into a small spray bottle along with 20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. You can also use diatomaceous earth. This article will give you more information on why and how it works - https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/what-is-diatomaceous-earth
