Could you give us some more details please I am not sure what you are asking. Are you asking how to prevent weeds? Other then that if you put a lid on the kettle that would keep the grass out.
It isn't entirely clear what you are asking.
Is the kettle hanging on an outdoor tripod?
Could you post a picture so that we can see what you are working with?
Hi Sue, I agree a picture for us would help a lot!
Is it that the tripod sits on the grass and it’s hard to mow around? If so you could set it on bricks. Not sure...
The tripod should be sitting on a non-grass surface.
If you have anything sitting on a grassy surface, the grass will grow under it, making it-the grass-hard to control.
You have a couple of options, kill off the grass, to do this just spray with vinegar, it will kill the grass, you may have to repeat as new grass appears.
Another is to put your tripod assembly on a non-grassy surface, such as bricks, pavers, plexiglass, a deck, or a patio, someplace where grass will not grow.
Please send us over a photo. I would perhaps cover the kettle.
Place some weed fabric and mulch under the whole thing in a circle and that will keep out the grass
Hello Sue, you could put the tripod legs on some decorative cement blocks, make sure they are wide and if you sink them, you can mow over them but the grass won't grow around the legs of the tripod, it will still look natural. I include a video which shows how to sink the blocks or stepping stones.

You can put down newspapers or landscape fabric to inhibit growth. However the wind blows seed so it’s a constant battle.
Weed eat under the kettle or get Spectracide weed and grass killer.
Hello I would consider using gravel or stones as you would a fire pit for a headache free solution.
The ones I have seen were always over a campfire. Perhaps landscape cloth covered with stone? Good luck and stay safe!
