Oh, go to Google and look up "Companion Plants", this will tell you what to plant in your garden to naturally repel pests, it really works and I have been using this method for years with good results. Best to you.

what about cloches ..They work wonders
It depends on the bugs. But I know on my rose plants, just some soapy water sprayed on them did the trick.
Keep in mind you need insects to pollinate your plants so they will produce fruit/vegetables. Leave them be and if you get any undesirable insects, deal with them when it's a problem.
Not all insects are bad. For example honey bees, ladybugs and spiders are each helpful in their own way. Companion plants and encouraging good bugs will actually improve your garden. My granddaughter had her own flower bed and she has explained to me the reason she looks for worms. You see, she read how good they are for the soil, so she relocates any she finds to her flowers. Personally I don't care for them, but, she does well with her garden. So do a little research on any bugs you find so that you know how to deal with them. My garden problems are related to squirrels and rabbits who steal and eat everything I grow. Good luck and stay safe!

Vinegar can be used as a repellent. It has the natural capability of killing and repelling insects and is harmless to humans, animals, and plants. To use it as a fly repellent, vinegar it is the most effective when it is is used in distilled form and less effective when diluted. Pour some in a spray bottle and spray it all around your garden.
I found a solution of peppermint body soap and peppermint essential oils on Pinterest. It seems to be doing the job for me.
If you interplant rosemary, lavender, lemon verbena, sages, citronella, and French marigolds amongst your plants, you should have no flies or mosquitoes. Know that black swallowtail butterflies are attracted to parsley, and cabbage moths enjoy feasting on lavender nectar.
You need the insects, especially bees and wasps, to pollinate your plants otherwise you won't have any vegetables.
Flies! I don’t think flies are a good thing! I have flies all over my vegetable garden too, all of a sudden. I just sprayed with neem oil and got rid of most bugs, however, flies have come rampantly.
