Hi Cynthia, you must mean an open weave cloth? Could you attach a safety pin to the end of the ribbon and use that to weave the ribbon in and out?
You could just remove the pin and turn that edge over and sew it when you were finished.
What material is the table cloth made from, and how dense of a weave is it?
What is your goal in attaching the ribbon to it? Would it be for a one-time use, or a more permanent purpose that would require washing the whole tablecloth?
Posting a picture of the table cloth would instantly show us what you have to work with.
Why are my responses always removed? I asked if it is lace or eyelet?

How thick is the ribbon? You will need to make slits for the ribbon to fit in the table cloth.
of course !
I would take a single edge razor and mark were you want the ribbon to go and then make small slits in the cloth then feed it through
Hello Cynthia,
First draw a line where you want the ribbon to be. Tie a knot in the end of the ribbon or secure at beginning of work. Then using an Upholstery needle do a running stitch along the line you have drawn, this should do it. Secure at finish of work with knot or stitches.
