Use a cutting machine to dress up a simple glass jar for fall.

I love decorating with jars and using them in different ways. I saved this jar and turned it into a painted vase to display fall stems.

Gather supplies

For this project you will need the following

  • Quart mason jar
  • Contact paper –  this is a great deal
  • Silhouette or Cricut cutting machine
  • White chalk paint
  • Sponge brush
  • Twine
  • Scissors

Cut the stencil

Use your Silhouette or Cricut to cut the Give Thanks stencil. Or pick any design you'd like to use on a vase. Read this post to learn how to get started with your Cricut. Use transfer tape or more contact paper to move the stencil to the mason jar. You are going to paint over the stencil.

Rub it down well, make sure there are no gaps that the paint can seep through.

Paint the jar

Use a sponge brush and whit chalk paint to dab paint all over the jar. Use just a little at a time so you end up with crisp stencil lines.

Then pull off the contact paper while the paint is still wet.

Decorate and display

When the white paint is dry, wrap the mouth of the jar with jute twine to finish off the top.

This fall jar looks great on a mantle filled with fall stems. Since the paint is on the outside you can even add real flowers and fill the jar with water.

This is really pretty! I love that you used contact paper to make the stencil. I think that’s probably a money saver as well as a time saver. I think I even might have left it on the jar…lol. It just looked so pretty and would make a lovely addition to any home!
