I always use a gloss paint roller, it has a smoother finish.
Hello Nana,
I would prefer to use a foam roller, but if you really want to use a brush, buy the best brush you can afford, as it will be worth it in the end(smoother application and no hair
loss. etc.
For the corners use an angled sash brush, they get in there better than square brushed. For acrylic paints use synthetic bristles, 3" sizes works best.
Here's a link that recommends a roller:

I would use a high quality brush for the corners and a roller for the rest of it.
They sell paint made specifically for front doors at craft & hardware stores.
Prime with oil based primer first before applying acrylic paint to a metal door. Or you could just get a gallon of Coronado Rust Scat waterbourne acrylic enamel.
We painted ours with a roller and it looks fabulous. You can peek if you like: https://www.exquisitelyunremarkable.com/2018/07/a-truly-fabulous-front-door.html
Use a small 2 inch roller and you won’t get brush marks get a small 2 inch brush for small spots
Hi, when it comes to paint brushes, a synthetic brush will give you less brush strokes. A natural bristle brush will hold more paint but it will give you a more textured look when it comes to the finished look. Hi! I have used an angled synthetic paint brush and a small roller if I can't or won't take it down. A paint sprayer will give you the best finish, but, it works best (and neater) if you take the door down. Be sure to clean the door really well, remove any rust, and be aware that the glossier the paint, the more obvious any dents. Good luck and stay safe!
Make sure you are using oil based paint. Best to take door down and paint it on a table or saw horses. Oil will show less brush strokes but spraying is best.
