Couch Makeover With New Legs

When we recently purchased my parents’ home, we inherited some of their furniture, which was of good quality but not really our style. This sofa was a perfect example.

It is a well-built couch but it didn’t fit into the decor ideas I had for the room. I wanted something a bit more contemporary and in a different color.I found a great white fabric similar to Sunbrella that is stain resistant, easily cleaned and reasonably priced called Crypton. With a tan dog and black cat, that would be the only way I could ever have a white sofa! This Crypton fabric is really great stuff and I plan to use the fabric on other projects in our The sofa seemed low, so I also decided to raise it up a bit to give it a bit more stature. I contacted my friends at Osborne Wood, who agreed to provide these lovely sofa legs to give my couch an additional 3″! And then, with these lovely legs, it was obvious that the skirt had to go!The legs came unfinished, but finishing them was an easy project, as they were already sanded. I unpacked the box, turned it over and used the empty box as a base for the legs while I applied several coats of stain.

We cut the old legs off at the base of the sofa.

When we ordered the new legs, we had also ordered 2" bolts that they screwed into the new legs. Then it was just a matter of screwing the new legs in place. It doesn’t even look like the same sofa now! The exposed legs made such a huge impact!
