What are the measurements for the “mattress” area? It may be as simple as putting a mattress in the frame. :)
I just put a queen box spring and mattress inside. A queen fits width wise, just not lengthwise. You'll have a gap..either at the head or feet (I put it at the feet). I just put blankets I wasn't using down in there! LOL
Did you want it as a base? Like a platform? For that you would need support going across. Good luck and stay safe!

All you do is drop in the correct size mattress. No box springs needed.
If the dimensions are the same, you can drop the regular mattress into the frame. A waterbed mattress weighs quite a bit more than a regular one so you shouldn't have any issues. I did it with mine many years ago.
They make a spacer to keep the mattress from moving as the waterbed frame is usually a bit bigger than a standard sized mattress.
