Has anyone restored or cleaned up a vintage kitchen scale?
I only want to use this as a decorative piece and maybe paint it. I would like the paint to end up looking like it was the original with out the shiny glossy look.
It looks like a galvanized 2 part commercial sink. It’s very very old, as they’re required to be stainless steel in restaurants for at least 60 years now.
If it is galvanized, you can’t be too aggressive with the inside, as in don’t abrade it with SOS or Brillow pads.
Also don’t use vinegar on it, as it breaks down the zinc.

Hi Pat. That looks like a very old soap stone sink. Use mineral oil to treat it.
Do you know what the sink is made from?
Sometimes, your soapstone sink will have stains that cannot be removed by scrubbing with soapy water. In such situations, you can remove the stains with chemical paint stripper. Apply a small amount with a towel, then wait a few minutes before wiping it away.
Is it mold? There are many mold removal solutions available.
Soapstone has a nice soft look even though it is non porus; a look very similar to "honed" granite.
