Homemade Lavender Hand-sanitiser
Now that we are obligated to carry hand sanitiser around, I made a lavender hand sanitiser to keep moral high with a bit of festivity.
First, I went on Amazon and ordered Purell's Advanced hand sanitiser, the best one available, the one that kills 99.99%. This is an illustration image from Amazon, basically all hand sanitisers will do, as long as it does not dry your skin to death.
As I wanted to gift the hand sanitisers to my loved ones, I purchased a set of 6 hand sanitisers and a funnel. I placed the bottle at a 45 degrees and used the funnel to fill the bottle. As the Purell hand sanitiser is liquid, it was easy to transfer it.
The only problem was that the bottles came with an annoying sticker at the bottom and the left side, stating that it is brand new, but it was very difficult to remove.
Using nail-polish remover (acetone) and a cotton ball, I removed the adhesive of the sticker. I basically rubbed the acetone on top of the glue until it dissolved. I used a paper towel to make sure it was clean.
Then, back to Amazon. I ordered lavender essential oil.
I read online to add 6 drops for every 10ml. My bottles were of 50ml. I decided to start with 6 and try it. It was alright. I could have smell the lavender but after a few second it dissolved. I added drops and smelled until I reached 12 drops. Then, the scent was very strong, hence, it was perfect.
After adding a few drops I shook it gently, as it says on the Purell container- do not shake. However, I needed to mix the lavender with the hand sanitiser, so I did it softly and mildly.
Adding the lavender created a few air-bubbles that dissolved a few days later.
Then, I cut label sheet to fit the size of the sanitiser. The bottle was 9 by 4 (cm). I made the labels 6 by 3 (cm), to leave a gap to see how much of the hand sanitiser you have left. I hand draw a name on each one and add a little drawing with my brush pen. I was happy with the result, until the first use. First time I used it, the entire label got covered with gel and peeled off entirely. Instead of shedding a tear, I took off the labels and scanned it. I designed something on the computer and using Amazon Print on Demand services, I ordered PVC adhesive labels. As it was not made out of paper, it was waterproof, therefore, would not be destroyed with the next drop of a gel.
Using my Christmas cotton twine string, I made a bow and placed it on the cap of each hand sanitiser, just to have a feel of a gift - without adding wrapping paper or a bag.
Placing the new label that just arrived in the mail box.
I cut a strip of 6 by 2 (cm) of a purple (lavender like) paper, and wrote a note, using a white pen, stating that this is a lavender hand sanitiser that is being gifted to make sure they are keeping safe, with a little personal note to each one.
The final product, a lavender hand sanitiser- filled with love, ready to be sent.
