Hi Kathleen, hope this helps you get your cardstock cut better. Can you cut cardstock with scissors?
Should just keep both scissors and a blade on hand and switch to your liking. I used a hobby knife for my first model and scissors for my second. I like how scissors require nothing but hands, but a hobby knife allows for cleaner cuts, while taking more time (but more time usually means a higher quality build anyway).Feb 28, 2008

If your scissors weren't sharp enough, that would explain the ragged edges.
Hello sharp scissors or an exacto knife might be recommended.
Hi Kathleen, Sharp scissors should help solve the problem and a trick I learned long ago. Hold the scissors in your hand and cut by cutting the cardstock by moving the cardstock, not the sciissos. Also, you might use an x-acto knife and a self-healing mat.
An exacto knife will give you the best results.
I use an exacto knife to cut cardstock cleanly.
When I used to cut a lot of cardstock in art school, I had a special cardstock cutter. It was hand held and did a great job with a metal ruler. I'd check a local art store or Michaels.
Hi Kathleen,
I agree with others that sharper scissors or an Exacto knife should work. I used to cut out a lot of shapes for my grandkiddo's and those are the tools that worked for me. I also made sure I went slow enough that I cut through with one stroke with the Exacto knife and/or was very careful to make sure the scissors were in the correct spot. Make sure the Exacto knife has a fresh, sharp blade. I hope that helps. Wishing you the best.
The problem with exacto knives is that their blades are long, straight and flat, which do not easily follow curves that many designs have.
I would recommend that you purchase a soft grip swivel cutter/swivel blade with a short handle. The swivel point/blade and the finger hold loop enable the cutter to follow the lines without stopping or lifting the cutting tool.
Fiskars is a quality brand, examples below.
Exacto knife is the best thing I have found to cut this type item. When it begins to dull, snap off the current piece and you have a fresh blade waiting. Paper dulls cutting instruments so quickly.
