Mirrors and things that sparkle help. And lots of levels of light: overheard, bedside, sconces, etc.
Start with light colors for the walls and mirrors to reflect light.

White walls, nice creative wallpaper, great lighting fixtures, no clutter, and maybe a mural.
Could you add an old window frame with a mirror behind it? It would reflect the light and give the illusion of a window :) You could even hang curtains on either side or shutters for a more rustic look.
A large mirror with a lamp in front of it will brighten the room. Also light color paint on the walls and happy bright colors will make your guests feel welcome! Shiny accessories will help too!
Hi Yolanda, how about you make a faux window with LED lights? I love this idea! Hope you do too!

Light colored paint, maybe a couple end tables with lamps, mirrors, faux candles you can turn on in sets, etc.
Hello a large mirror or faux window might be suggested.
Also using lamps as well as overhead lighting might be helpful.

Light wall colors will only look dingy in a dark, windowless room. Bring in as much light as you can with table and floor lamps, some mirrors, fun art on the walls. Personally I don't fight that battle and work with the dark as it makes the room feel larger.
Increase your lighting with LED bulbs on a dimmer switch. You can look for 3000 kelvin or greater, depending upon the room size. Light colored furniture (think Scandanavian), one color for walls/ trim/ ceiling, minimal textures (as they absorb more light than hardwood floors, plainly styled furniture, etc.). Guest rooms benefit from a mirror, overhead and side table/desk lamps or a floor lamp beside a reading chair. Placing lighting in corners and using satin finish wall paint will increase reflectivity.
Light colors, mirrors, and extra lighting. My dining room and a craft room that are without a window and I went with a light color on the walls. People don't even notice there isn't a window in there. You can also hang a curtain where a window might be placed.
Light walls and large mirrors will brighten up your room. Also, there are some ideas here: Home and Garden DIY Ideas | Hometalk

What type of lighting do you presently have in the room?
Incandescent casts a yellowy tone and fluorescent a greenish hue, which can both make the colors in the room appear duller and darker than they really are. If you are considering painting the walls and ceiling, I would advise you to change the lighting in the room to LED first. Here are some examples of how new LED lighting can change the perceived colors in a room.
Every room should have at least two sources of light - one main source to light the whole room, usually on the ceiling, and another source positioned for task lighting, such as reading in bed, grooming by the mirror, and so on.
For a guest room, I would also recommend installing a table top dimmer switch (first picture below) that can be operated while the person is already in bed. A dimmer switch that operates the main source of light is also recommended so that the light in the room can be altered and adjusted according to time of day and activity level.
