Hi Marsha, I'm wondering if you can tack the fabric down in that spot with a stapler or even a screw with a large washer on it? Than you could glue the button over top.
Hi! I would try to sew them back on using a kit like this:

If you don't sew try E6000 glue
There should be a loop on the back of the button to stitch it to the couch again. If not, then I would go with the glue option. The loop may have broken off in the couch or it may never have been sewn on in the first place.
If you can get underneath or behind the sofa you can sew them back on. I agree with E6000 glue. You need something flexible if you can't sew them back on.

Did you manage to repair your couch?
To address this issue, you'll need a few tools like a heavy-duty needle, strong upholstery thread, and a thimble to protect your fingers. First, locate the original buttonholes on your couch. Then, thread the needle with the upholstery thread and push it through the buttonhole from the inside out. Next, securely attach the button to the thread and push the needle back through the same hole to the inside of the couch. Repeat this process for each missing button.

Gluing with E6000 glue will do the job easily without the hassle of sewing.
