we bought some inexpensive metal covered racks at home depot for $4 each and have them in our garage as you come in the door to hang our shoes on- they are off the floor and out of the way
Good ideas above. However, getting the kids to put them on the rack or other contraption is the first challenge.
I just saw this video. It may be beyond your skill or needs, but it it showed up on You Tube today.

All you need is a piece of plywood and some metal coat hooks. Screw the hooks into the board. Similar to this.
Metal peg board is much stronger then wooden peg board.
I really like Ken's idea of a storage bench. That way not only could you store shoes in that but they would be out of sight and each family member could have their own drawer for their own shoes.
It would also allow you to put all sneakers, boots or sandals in their own drawer.
Borrowing space from between the wall studs for shoe storage is a floor-space-saving idea.
Hello Mary,
Buy Dowelling and cut it to size and push in holes.
I imagine you could simply hang a large pegboard and add hooks. Hang the shoes, opening side toward the pegboard, one on each hook. Hope this helps!

I arranged all my sports and work shoes on a piece of plywood and some metal coat hooks. I didn't do much design because we are planning to make some changes in the house anyway, and then we will probably buy something more beautiful, or a special shoe cabinet where we will store it. But we have a lot of shoes in the house, especially sneakers and my pairs of nurse shoes. The last time I placed an order, I purchased two more New Balance pairs. I read in this article https://www.tennisshoez.com/best-tennis-shoes-for-nurses/ some recommendations for comfortable and breathable shoes, so I bought them.
