Here's a link that uses a glass top instead of your pine round. The process will be similar until you get to attaching the top. You can either attach the top with screws or an adhesive, like Liquid Nails.

Hello Liz, you could start by making sure the driftwood sits nice and stable on the floor, flatten the bottom of nice and level, then level a surface on the top to allow the pine round to sit level, use a level to achieve these flats, you can use a wood plane, and a sander to get the surface nice and smooth and ready for glue. One video show you how to level the pine slab, and few to guide you some

It's a little hard to say without knowing what the driftwood piece looks like, what the best way to connect the two would be. You can screw them together or glue them, it depends. Maybe bring a photo of both to your local hardware store, they'll be able to direct you to the best method.
you could attach it with liquid nails or other heavy duty glue or screws
You could use connecting brackets...shaped like an "L" or straight ones and screw them together.

Hello. Would the surfaces allow for using a command adhesive strip. Some are weigh rated and might offer a harmless attachment point to both wooden pieces.
Hello Liz,
If you want to insert the Pine circular timber into a driftwood timber, you will need to position the timbers as you would like them to sit. Mark around the circular pine to leave a clear guide line for you to cut out the shape from the driftwood. Use a drill to make a pilot hole just inside the circle you are going to cut out and then use a Jig Saw to cut out the shape, keeping to the line you have drawn. Hope that helps.
If it was my project I would use another piece of wood and screw it into the driftwood first. Then add the top and screw the spare wood with the drift wood into the round.
