STEP BY STEP
1. Apply primer
Start by preparing the tire that will become your swing . Clean the surface well with a brush to remove dust or other dirt and leave it ready to apply a spray plastic primer. Shake the bottle well – it is essential to do it when you apply spray -, give it several layers and let it dry. This primer will make the paint to decorate the tire grip better.
When the primer is dry, it is time to decorate the tire with a base color. Apply several coats of spray paint, leaving a few minutes in between, and let it dry. To make it more special, you can decorate the future swing with a motive – we have given it a summery touch by decorating with fruits – with more spray paint and the help of a stencil.
When the paint is dry, it is time to fix the anchors that will allow you to hang the swing using ropes. Mark four opposite points, two and two, and make holes with the drill and a suitable bit. When you have them, install the sockets with the help of nuts and washers.
Make sure to install the proper anchors for the use you want to put the swing.
Lastly, attach the ropes to hang the swing. Cut four pieces of rope to the length you want and secure them tightly to each of the four shells with a sailor’s knot. Ready!
This is how our summer swing was, what do you think? Do you like the fruit motifs with which we have decorated it? Leave us a comment and tell us 😉
Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I should think you could use any (used) tire for this project. Why list a particular one??
Suggestions on how to keep wasps from making nests in the tire?
How do you keep spiders out of tires? I have found that black widows and other spiders love living in old tires. That horrifies me to think of getting bitten when you use the swing.
