DIY Salt Dough Ornaments
I wanted toake something for Valentine's Day since that's the one holiday I lack decor for! I found a recipe for salt dough ornaments, and thought that they would make such cute accents throughout the house! Join me as I create some holiday and pet themed salt dough ornaments!
Best Easter cookie cutters!
First, you'll need to combine;
4 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
In a bowl. Whisk these ingredients together.
Then, stream in 1 and 1/2 cups of water slowly as you whisk. Whisk until combined and then knead with your hands for an additional 5 minutes.
Your dough should look like this.
Then, place your dough between two sheets of parchment paper. Roll until about 1/8th inch thickness.
Use cookie cutters to cut out your desired shapes.
Once your shapes are cut out, use tools to write on them, or press lace into them for texture, use a fork to make shapes, etc. Get creative and have fun!
Poke holes in your shapes to put string through.
Put your ornaments in the oven at 300° F for about one hour or until hard.
Take your ornaments off the baking sheet, and onto a cooling rack. Let cool completely.
Paint your ornaments as you desire!
Let the paint dry completely! And I truly mean completely! (I might have gotten slightly impatient here and paid the price for it!)
Modpodge your ornaments. Make sure you get both front and back, sides and all! Do this twice, but let the modpodge dry completely in between coats.
Decorate! I put a few hearts around some vases, and I plan to make my dog's treat container a little cuter by hanging a bone shaped ornament on it! The possibilities are endless with this craft, and I cannot wait to see how you're turn out!
