DIY Canvas Art Makeover
I was given this canvas that a friend no longer wanted. At first I wasn’t sure what I would do with it as the art didn’t match my house. I was thinking of doing some sort of art in the nursery and that’s when a lightbulb went off.
First step was to do a thin layer of primer.
Coverage didn’t have to be perfect as I would be covering it.
I had left over drywall compound from a previous project. I began slathering it on to the canvas.
I then used a paint stirring stick to add some different strokes.
Using a clay sculpting tool I added some more texture and different strokes.
Now it was time to let it dry.
Once the compound was dry, I finished it off with white paint. I used the primer I had from step 1 but you could use any paint.
I was planning on being super resourceful with this project. I recently bought a dishwasher and at the top of the packaging box, was this wooden frame.
I also had some corner brackets laying around from other packaging. This is how I planned to connect the frame to the canvas.
I simply measured it to the size of the canvas and cut it using my mitre saw.
I then stained the frame using my go-to color, Flagstone by Rustoleum.

It turned out perfectly and was so fun to create!
