How can I get my dingy white laundry back to a bright white?
I use the hydrogen based dry powder bleach from the dollar store, it is the equivalent of Oxyclean at a fraction of the price. Let them soak for 12-24 hours.

Soak your dingy whites in a sink of hot water with about a 1/4 cup of powdereddishwasher detergent that's been dissolved in the hot water. I used to use this on dingy diapers and they came out gleaming white.
Baking soda mixed with liquid soap adding hot water. Leave the white piece in this mixture for about 15 minutes then scrub a little bit and finish the wash.
You can use hydrogen peroxide to whiten and brighten clothes, disinfect laundry, and remove stains. Pour it directly on stains such as blood. Add 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide to whites in the washing machine to brighten them.
If the white items of clothing are made from nylon, or another synthetic fibre, and have been stained with perspiration, unfortunately, it may be next to impossible to entirely re-whiten the fabric, especially if the item has already been washed and dried with heat.
Here is a nice post about your question

Lemon Juice or Hydrogen Peroxide, 1 cup added to the wash. Borax is also a good booster for your detergent that is color safe.
We use a product called "White Brite" and it works great. Bought it at the grocery store, it was with the detergents.
Oxiclean
Hydrogen Peroxide works well to brighten dingy whites
Rit makes a white fabric brightener that works very well.
Soak in water with borax. May need to do it a couple of times.
