Moss Art- Diy Textured Wall Decor in Less Than a Hour
Want an easy way to bring a touch of nature into your home? Today I am sharing one of my all-time favorite DIYs. I created this textured piece of Wall Decor with leftover supplies I had on hand and in less than an hour. Now that is my kind of DIY!
I have seen versions of these before on Pinterest, so when I stumbled across a box of preserved moss leftover from my daughter’s wedding DIY’s, I knew exactly what to do with it. I love having pieces in my home that are one of a kind and handmade.
If you’d like to try this yourself, this is what you will need:
Assorted Moss
Frame
Glue Gun
Scissors
For the frame, you can use any frame that has a bit of depth (think shadowbox frame). I actually used a piece of art that I no longer loved. If you don’t have a frame at home, you can use a box frame from Amazon or Micheals. If you are purchasing, make sure it’s a frame and doesn’t have a “door.” You want to be able to remove the glass leaving it as an open box. I think 3 bags of assorted/variety of moss would be plenty.
My frame choice had words on it, so I painted over it so the black letters wouldn’t show through. I just grabbed old paint I had on hand.
I sorted the different colors and textures of moss into piles. I then laid the moss into a pattern that liked so that I knew where I wanted to glue everything once I began. If I had wanted a more exact pattern I could have marked lines on the back of the frame were to serve as a guide.
Be careful of the glue gun! You can easily burn your fingers. Once I was happy with the placement of the glued moss I took it outside and shook all the loose moss pieces free. If the moss falls off and exposes holes simply glue more pieces on.
I then trimmed off anything that was hanging weird or terribly uneven.
It took me less than an hour, and I used supplies I had on hand. If I had bought everything, I would guess it would be around $50.00, and that is because the frame I used was pretty large.
Here it is, hanging at our Airbnb.
