If your attic isn't temperature controlled, you will most likely have issues with heat and humidity during the summer so I would pack them in vacuum sealed bags. You can "toss" them down from the attic so the biggest tasks will be packing away and getting them up there.
Hi Mellinee, I keep my winter gear in bins out of the way in one of our closets. It seems to work great for keeping them safe and fresh throughout the summer time.
Here are some ideas rather than attic storage, if you have enough space:
Keep clothes out of the basement and attic.
Climate control is key. Store clothing in the main areas of your home or in a climate controlled storage facility. Basements and attics are too humid and are an invitation to mold, mildew and insects. Consider storing out-of-season clothing beneath staircases, extra closets, under beds and even in your main closet if you have space.

If you have to store the clothes in the attic, sealed bags would help, I would also consider using a desiccant if you choose to not use sealed bags.
Hi Mellinee, what kind of ideas are you wanting? Are you wanting to change your current storage in the attic?
The attic is not the best place for clothes, but hanging a rod and putting them in garment bags may be an option.
If this helps, we change out our main bedroom closet three times a year, so we can keep the seasonal clothes close at hand. It's a bit of a pain but necessary as we only have a small closet there.
The part I don't really like is when we have say a hot spell in middle October and I have to go digging around, because I already moved the summer clothes!
I have heat and air in my attic. I also have a nice set up with 2 steel pipe closet rods that run from one rafter to another that my husband I put in when we moved into the house 12 years ago. Putting clothes in bins are very cumbersome pushing up on the ladder. I have some clothes in vacuum bags. But I would have to have at least 20 plus bags to do all my clothes. We have a pulley system now that we use. This is a rental and we hope to be moving soon back to the country, otherwise I would spend the money for an attic lift, which is the smartest way to go.......thanks for your reply!
I would go through the clothing you are ready to store for the season and donate anything you don't need, doesn't fit or you don't like anymore then pack into storage bins and take to the attic. Bring down the items you want to put in your closet and sort thru them as well before cleaning and hanging in your closet. ALso when you store these items put half a dryer sheet in the box before closing to keep them fresh smelling

Hello. I like to use spacebags having limited closet storage.
I do mine in small chunks. Take 10 pieces down everytime you pass the attic door. Take 10 up on the next trip up. it doesn't seem like such a daunting task.
Can you give me specifics
Do a few pieces each day
