You will need to reinforce the door if you plan to add a bookcase to it - especially the hinges.
Hi there, here's a great video that will show you how to do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V11l2sSYOWc
Hi,
Make up your book shelves and then fit it to the door with a surround. Make sure the door is solid and can take the weight!
My biggest concern would also be weight some doors (especially closet doors) are not built to withstand very much. Here's a tutorial! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_fZq3Dqem4

Hello. That sounds like it could be adding substantial weight to your door. They do make bookcase doors it might be best to purchase one that has hinges and weight rating useful for display.

The hinges and door might not be able to handle the added weight, especially if you plan to add books. You might need to use a beefier door and stronger hinges before you consider a bookcase.

Yes, books weigh a lot. Wood does well in compression, not tension.
You can buy heavy duty hinges and set a third middle hinge with a chisel.
If you find a used solid core door, they can be trimmed to fit, if too big.
