Has anyone ever tried painting a metal, recessed toilet paper holder?
Trying to fix up a bathroom with painting, redoing the tile grout and moulding and adding a towel bar. Wondering if I can paint the metal toilet paper holder to match the new trim and also save on expenses. Please let me know if you've done it and how long it lasted. Thank you!

We actually spray-painted ours white before we put up peel and stick wallpaper. I covered everything else and it was quick and easy.
Hello. I have spray-painted several unmounted Bathroom metal items and outdoor metal patio furniture successfully using rustoleum paint and primer spray paint —that I highly recommend. I have not done a toilet paper holder. I hope you find the perfect solution.
Krylon makes a spray paint for this type of project you can find it in numerous colors it is for metal, stainless steel, etc. just be sure to tape off the areas before painting it
You could scuff with steel wool & wipe with alcohol. Tape the entire area off, then spray paint with RustOleum. You might try the hammered finish to disguise wear & tear.
Another thought is cover with contact paper.
Be sure to tape off of the area and get a spray paint that is made for metal.
Rustoleum makes paint for metal. To add a layer of safety after painting add a clear coat or two to keep from scratches.
I would think you would need to pull it out, lightly sand it and then spray paint it.

Oh I have painted towel racks, toilet paper holders, hinges etc. Rustoleum makes a spray on primer Primer allows the paint to adhere better by providing a uniform surface, and will help it last longer. It can also seal a porous surface, block out stains from bleeding through the topcoat, prevent rust formation on iron and steel. Rustoleum makes several metaliac colors from bronze to silver. I have never had any problems with my painted towel racks etc. Make sure you follow the directions completely. Some paints need to be sprayed within 45 minutes others the next day. Spray outside and wear a mask. Let dry completely several days before installation.
Sure. Make sure surface is clean and paint away
I'm gathering it's chrome plated and it's got rust forming?
I would take it out, knock down any rust with a wad of aluminum foil, then wipe clean with acetone.
Yes, then prime with a binding primer, and 2 coats of spray enamel after that.
You'll have $8 in primer/paint and 2 hours of time in it.
You could use metal spray paint
Ok, mine is glued in to the space and can't be removed to spray paint it. How do I do it? Don't want to try spraying in that tiny bathroom.
I have a dated chrome toilet paper holder and plan to sand it and then use rusteolum black spray paint in many light mistings to update mine in a few months.
