It always amazes why one post is pinned thousands of times and others are rarely pinned. I have two posts that are continually pinned day after day. This one is pinned approximately 3500 times a month for years. It is still one of my most popular posts of all time. INSTALL WIDE BASEBOARD MOLDING OVER EXISTING NARROW.

Updated and Revised Post With New Product Listing:

With so many room makeovers going on, I see that it is being pinned more often than usual, so time to share my complete post and review again. REVISED NOTICE: The baseboard that I used is no longer carried by Lowes, but they do have another brand they carry that works the same way. (This was a bathroom makeover from my previous home.)

When I showed you guys my inspiration ideas for redoing the hall bathroom, I showed you this new molding idea. It is a composite wide molding that is sculpted to fit right over your narrow molding without having to remove it. You all asked for a review when I got it.

Here is a picture to show you how it fits over my baseboard. My existing baseboard is really narrow, not anywhere near as wide as the sample the manufacturer shows. It does fit right over the top beautifully.

This shows how it fits next to the door frame. I think this is a genius product.

All I had to do was measure the length, make one cut, unscrew the doorstop, push in place and nail with my electric nail gun.

What an amazing upgrade. It looks fabulous. (That’s the chair rail and new towel bars in the tub – it’s a construction zone here)

Now all I have to do is install the chair rail and caulk both then the wall will be ready for paint.

The baseboard I used is no longer available at Lowe’s, however they have a different brand that works the same way. Here is the link – – -https://www.lowes.com/pd/Orac-Decor-Orac-Decor-Baseboard-4-75-in-x6-5-ft-Polystyrene-Baseboard/5001173049

Great project! I would love to try this, as my baseboards could use a paint job, are narrow and some are even cracking for some reason. What do you recommend using for making the cuts? (I don't have any saws, etc., but would probably invest for this project.) Thanks for sharing!

Would this work for crown molding also? If so how do I know what size molding to buy? Fantastic idea and your instructions are so

understandable for us who are new at this?

It would take 5 minutes to pull up bathroom baseboard and save $20 a board.

  • I agree, however some times this is the best answer.

Yes, and also you can potentially snake wires behind this type of baseboard (which it looks like was done in the Lowes product) which would be a real plus in older homes with plaster or masonry walls, etc.
