Repair Laminate with Simple Mat?
I am working on giving a marble look to my kitchen counters with a Giani marble countertop kit. The only problem is that I can’t remove the backsplash and part of the laminate is coming off. I tried ironing it back together but it’s not working. I’m afraid to use contact cement - it’s fatal if ingested and has high VOCs, I’ve read. Do you think a product like Simple Mat would work? Are there any other adhesives that would work? I tried Gorilla Glue with no luck. I’ve already added the marble look to half of my kitchen.

Hi! I use E6000 glue for things like this. Especially since you weren't able to reactivate the old glue with heat . Good luck!
Hello. I’m not familiar with simple mat. I might consider looking into construction adhesive or E6000.
E6000 works well on projects like this, often heat can reactivate the original glue, but for some reason did not.
Try E6000 but you can use contact cement. That's what is used originally to apply laminate. Just open a few windows - no big deal.
I agree you can try E6000 but contact cement is original to gluing laminate. You can also try Liquid Nails or Locktite Powergrab. Whatever you use you will need to spread an even coat not just blobs or lines of adhesive.
In my first apartment the laminate on the bathroom counter came loose like this. I used a got glue gun and it looked perfect afterwards. Plus it never (in 5 years) came loose.
I used Gorilla glue on mine and it worked great to keep it glued back
Thanks for the hot glue idea! I am thinking of giving that a try.
I tried Gorilla Glue, but it didn't stick. Perhaps I need to use a clamp?
Loctite Power Grab should do the trick. You need a way to keep it pressed tight against it until it is dry. You can't use a clamp (my go to) by maybe you can put something that is heavy against it and press tightly.
Yes, the failed Gorilla Glue might make other glues not do their best.
Contact cement is what was used at the factory. It needs to be on both surfaces and is "thin".
Therefore I'd use a "thicker" adhesive.
In addition to pushing a bunch of books or something heavy against it, I burnish it with a brayer.
Remove all your back splash and after done with the Giani, put a few tiles on for back splash.
We did a counter with Giani, Check it out

Use 3M spray adhesive. If you want to remove the whole piece use a heat gun moving back and forth to loosen adhesive already there along with a thin putty knife to slide under and slide it as you go carefully so you don't crack laminate piece. Once off spray both top and laminate (use blue tape, painters tape) to mask off any area not needing adhesive and let it get tacky then carefully align and stick back on. Hammer, rubber mallet tap on it and you all set. I install counter tops and we do these when end caps or strips on bar tops need replacement. Hope this helps
I would try Aleene's Liquid Fusion - it doesn't stink and is an amazing adhesive!: https://amzn.to/3ut2BEI
Since you already tried the Gorilla Glue it might impede another glue you try if there's a lumpy reside there. The hot glue gun might work, but it may pop open again as it dries, as well. I can't deal with strong odors, but the contact cement is probably your best best. Or you could call the local hardware store and ask if they can recommend a product that feel better about, but would do the job.
this may help
E 6ooo for sure will help
You just need a good contact cement to get that sticking right back on.
Have you tried epoxy
Hi I believe EVO STICK Adhesive will do it.
