It is probably a matte based paint to give the softness. Visit a Benjamin Moore store and see if that is what you are looking for. If you have a sample of the paint, they could match it for you.
Hello
Was this question supposed to be attached to a project post? Are you trying to post this question do a project that you have viewed? Im not sure we know what project you are specifically asking about. Can you post a photo?
Generally a softer black paint would be a Satin or matte finish.
Hi Nancy,
Do I understand your question correctly that you are asking for suggestions on what others feel is the best soft black paint color?
If you could tell us a little more about what your project is, and what exactly you are wanting to paint black, we would be better able to offer you suggestions on which choice might be best for your particular project.
Keep in mind that almost any brand of paint can be tinted almost any color, irregardless of the name of the paint company of the individual color number.

A "soft" black could mean two different things to me either it has some gray in it so its not jet black or you're looking for more of a matte color so its not so strong. A black chalk paint would give you that look.
go to a paint store or hardware store that sells paint and look at the shades they have- there are a number of soft black colors you can go to sherwinwilliams.com and order free sample pieces to try as well
Yes you really need to go somewhere there are paint strips to look at. What I consider soft black might not be what you want.
I would say to go a free standing Sherwin Williams store. Their employees are highly trained and can help you pick exactly what you are looking for. You can purchase a sample to make sure it's right before investing in a gallon.
You don’t say we’re your using the paint out side or inside I would go to Home Depot and go to paint section and ask the associate for a rrescmended item for your project
Go to Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams they can help you get a nice black paint. You need to be careful with black, because the pigments can be red or purple.
Hi! Some research and samples may be needed. Keep in mind colors look different in different lighting and you will need to use an interior or exterior paint depending on where you are painting. Good luck!
I would go to a paint store like Sherwin Williams is VERY helpful or a hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot when they aren't super busy to get some help selecting a color. You can even get a sample paint or two to try out first.
What are you wanting to paint?
want to paint my stair case & my method is no sanding! I know what to use for the prep but want to have a good primer that my paint will stick to. I think Benjamin more makes a good one, color is satin black but NOT JET!
I would use zinseer primer, and then a satin finish or semi-gloss if you like a bit of shine. Benjamin Moore makes good paint.
I would go to a Benjamin Moore retailer and start there. They have so many choices and you can get wall samples and they all come in different finishes based on your application.
