Inside-Outside Connection

We are often faced with the problem of inadequate connection of indoor and outdoor spaces. In this case there was no shade protection between the pool/pool deck and the living/dining spaces, and access to the backyard was restricted and awkward. We solved these problems with a generous porch that provides seating, ventilation, and a deluxe grill zone.

The pool was existing, but we redid the deck with cast concrete tile that flows throughout the porch as well.
The grill zone, featuring outdoor bar seating at a granite island, has almost become the family's primary cooking space, to their delight and amusement.
The full progression from indoor to outdoor, crucial to a hot Texas climate.

Lori Jackson on Sep 09, 2014I like the skylights in the porch to allow some natural light inside. We have a deep porch and I am craving light.
