I was grocery shopping the other day and stopped short in the bean aisle. An idea came to mind and I started adding bags of beans to my cart. The hubby wanted to know if I planned on making soup. Ummm….no. I’m thinking crafts! He shrugged and moved on. He knows me well enough to know that I’m pretty unpredictable.
This project uses canvas and beans. Particularly black beans and white navy beans.
Draw in a simple silhouette picture on a canvas.
Paint in the silhouette, covering any areas that would have black beans with black paint.
Glue on the beans. In this case I used black beans and white navy beans.
Add the white beans. Just use white glue to attach them!
Final touches include painting the edges and then sealing with acrylic sealant. For more details check out the link below!

Susan Myers on May 01, 2016I used a clear spray acrylic sealer. You can find lots of options at your craft store or Home Depot.

I have made several of the coffee ones for gifts. I didn't use the navy beans because I prefer a plain background. Getting ready to start another one. :-)

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
When using the black beans, will they eventually rot? Our school art club would like to use them on a huge mosaic we are making but the concern is longevity.
