Keeping Receipts Organized

Receipts were taking over my purse, my desk, my pockets--they were everywhere! And yet, I couldn't just throw them away. And yet...I sure as heck didn't feel like filing them away as I got them. And then I had an idea...
When I used to work in food, we had a little block of wood with a long nail on it that we would use to stash food orders as we completed them. I wanted to create something similar to keep our receipts on.
While trying to find a large enough block of wood, I stumbled across an old award that I no longer cared about. It was the perfect weight and had smooth beveled edges. No cutting or sanding wood--I had the perfect piece right here. Prying the gold plate off was easy.
Measuring the center of the block, I hammered a long nail through the middle.
Next, I sanded around the edge of the nail until it was smooth.
The only thing left to do was to cut strips of paper to fit and decoupage them to the wood using Mod Podge and a paintbrush. Our receipts stay perfectly in place until I am ready to file them away. This is hand-down one of my biggest lifesaver organization tools.
