Give Your Corbels Some Relief: Add Depth to the Silhouette of a Floral Corbel

If a floral corbel design suggests leaves... then add some simple carving to pick out these details and add 3D relief to them. You don't have to be a sculptor or wood carver. A sharp pencil, a utility knife or exacto knife and some sand paper were the tools I used. I make a photo copy of my pattern and poked it through the paper onto the wood so all the corbels match. As a detail sander, I wrapped sandpaper around a little laminate countertop sample, to sand in the tight places carved between the leaves. Brian Campbell, Basswood Artisan Carpentry on Oct 28, 2012@SheilaG, Plum Doodles It is a funny tool, but it is the perfect size, and is thin and stiff and has eased (rounded) corners... like a credit card.
