Mason Jar Canisters
I finally decided to give Annie Sloan Chalk Paint a try and see what all the fuss is about. I experimented on my mason jars before I start painting up all the furniture in my house! Chalk paint claims to adhere to just about anything without any sanding needed.
First I ordered a sample kit. Chalk paint is only sold in select retailers, you can find your local retailers via AnnieSloan.com. You can choose which 5 colors you would like in your sampler kit.
I started by painting the jars Louis Blue. Then I added a coat of Pure White over that.
I wanted to achieve a layered, distressed look. Once the paint dries, you can sand it to reveal the layers underneath. Here are the jars at different stages of sanding. I found that adding water to the paint helps it go on smoother and with less brush strokes.
Once you achieve your desired results, you apply the wax in a circular motion, then immediately lightly buff it off. The wax is to seal and protect the pieces, as well as enhance the paint color. I used the clear wax on my jars. Here is what they looked like before.

Ann Sloan makes great products. But they are pricey. I make my own chalk paint with any latex paint I like.
