Today I’m going to show you my dining room chairs and how I re-did them. I paid $40.00 for 4 chairs. They are really heavy and quality made. You may think a ten dollar chair isn’t anything you would like- but what do you think of these
I LOVED all the detail! I know you wood purists will cringe when I say that my plan was to paint them and then use an antiquing glaze. But to each his own, right? I knew that all those little nooks and crannies would be great for that treatment.
First I primed all the chairs with spray primer. I asked Hubby to pick up a few cans of spray primer and he brought home gray primer. What? I had never seen gray primer before, but ok.

It kind of looks white in this picture but it is really gray. It took a couple of coats to cover all the wood tones. Spray paint is really the way to go when doing a project like this. It would have taken forever to hand paint 4 of these puppies!

Plus using a primer kept me from having to sand all of them. Win- win.

I had planned to paint them white but I was kind of liking the gray. So I did what I usually do- mix up my own color.
The original seat covers were just fine for the chairs before I painted them, but they weren’t doing a thing for me afterwards.

Reupholstering the chairs is really easy! The bottoms are screwed in from underneath. So simply unscrew the bottoms and pop them out!

I didn’t even take the old fabric off. I lay the seat on the fabric, cut it out and then stapled on the new fabric, and re-attached the seat bottoms.
Then I mixed a clear glaze with Ebony stain in about a 2:1 ratio and started to brush it on with a brush and immediately began wiping off the excess, leaving the stain in the crevices.
Here are my chairs in the dining room:

You did a great job, I might of been one of those who would have cringed, but they look awesome!

Hi Norma! I had to re-read my post to see what you meant and I'm afraid I wasn't very clear. I didn't mix spray paint, I mixed the final color of grey. Sorry to have confused you!!
