An Unusual Plant Stand Gets a Makeover

Have you ever seen a plant stand like this one? I certainly hadn't until my mother purchased this one at her church's annual sale. It was weathered from use but after sanding and a few coats of paint, this stand is ready to be used again. The more I think about it, I believe that the piece may have originally have been designed for African Violets. What do you think?
I painted this unusual piece with Velvet Finishes paint in Handsome.
This photo shows you the condition of the wood before I painted this piece. Since it will hold plants, I applied a coat of polyurethane over the paint.
Displaying collectibles is another idea for using this piece.
