Years ago I had good intentions to make over a little desk that I got for a steal at a garage sale. I figured it would come in handy when we were finally blessed with Grandchildren. Well 6 years ago, we moved and that unfinished desk moved with us.
I envisioned a space where my now 2 Grandkids could color, play dough, chalk etc. My first thought was to purchase chalkboard paint and paint the top of the desk so the kids would have a chalkboard surface to scribble on. The only issue was if they wanted to paint, or play with playdoh the chalkboard finish would eventually become useless.
So my husband came up with an idea of adding another surface attached to the top with a piano hinge. So it could be flipped up and over, and used either on the desk top or while it's hanging on the back..2 kids could even be playing at the same time!

So we purchased chalkboard paint, a piano hinge, a piece of wood and chalkboard paint.

We sanded, painted and attached the top.
We even added additional storage and and paper on the side of the desk.

I LOVE the way it came out and so do my Grandkids!

Look at all the different ways you can use it!
