When I saw this spool on the side of the road I couldn't stop fast enough. I even braved breaking the laws of Detroit. Did you know it is illegal to garbage pick in Detroit? You have to have a permit! Actually this wasn't in the trash so I guess I'm not a felon...
You'd never know how anxious I was to make this since I left it in the garage for a couple of years before I did anything with it! It was pretty spidery by the time I got to it. So the first thing I did was brush out the spider eggs and cob webs. Then I sanded it all really well with an orbital sander.
To stain it I just applied Dark Wax by Annie Sloan. I love staining with colored waxes.
The color is beautiful and I love the way the scratches and rough wood caught the color. I added 4" locking castors to the bottom
After all that time wanting one, I decided to use it to make a table for my grandson's nursery.
It is my intent to put spindles between the upper and lower circles to provide support that will hold up books. I had a small drill problem and couldn't get that done while I was visiting. I love it! It's just dang cute.
