Since a bathroom is a high moisture area, I would take up whatever flooring is down to the sub floor. I currently have wood laminate in mine, but then I don't have kids and I am extra cautious about making sure no water is left on the floor.

As a general rule, Ceramic tile or sheet vinyl are the only flooring suitable for a bathroom. Others may have suggestions but these are mine!
