I have a friend that owns the landfill in our area. She contacted me and told me she had a piece of furniture she thought i might like to redo. I sent my son to pick it up and . I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. I knew this poor thing had a story to tell.
We stripped all the old veneer off . Then we sanded until we had a new foundation to work with it. Both sides had holes where the garbage truck had grabbed it. So we patch the hole from the inside and fixed with wood putty.
We then painted it using GF Linen and used Java gel stain. Nope that look wasn't working for . So we repainted the entire dresser using GF Linen milk paint. We mixed GF 1 part Halcyon blue milk paint with 3 parts clear glaze and 2 parts Van Dyke Glaze. Using this mixture on the tops of the drawers and the drawers. We then used antique aging wax from Vaspar to give it a natural worn look.
We used GF top coat to give in a beautiful shine. We had a new mirror cut and glued in place. Add pretty Off white with with gold trim knobs . She now shines like a diamond !

What a great find! Lucky you to have a friend that thinks of you. And good for you for taking action when you get that opportunity handed to you. I miss the days when one was able to go to the 'dump' and pull out stuff like this before it was bulldozed or burned. There is far too much going (and staying) to landfills in a world that needs sustainability and reuse instead of just more stuff. I love the curb recycling projects that are being put in place.
