Keep it neat: It might be tempting, but don’t use the top of the dresser as temporary storage. This will clutter your room.
Opt for maximum storage: Choose as much storage space as possible, so that the dresser can be used in the long term as your family grows.
Go lighter: As long as it matches your other furniture, paint your dresser a light color to make it look less imposing and bulky.
Have a system: Don’t be tempted to throw everything into the drawers. Come up with a plan for where and how you store items in your dresser.
Keep drawers closed: Keep dresser drawers shut to prevent anyone bumping into them. This will also make the room look less busy.

How to Update an Antique Serpentine Front Dresser Using a Transfer

As soon as I picked up this gorgeous curvy dresser, I had my vision. Iron orchid designs recently came out with paintable transfers. Yes, you can paint them! Most just use watercolors, or super watered down paint, maybe colored stains, it should be translucent and it's a fun way to add your own twist to these transfers. So needless to say, I wanted one as soon as they hit the shelves! And Astoria Foliage was my favorite 😍 So i grabbed one of those transfers from my local distributor, along with other IOD goodies because of course you can't just buy one thing! 😆 They are all so pretty and fun!Getting a little off course here, so to recap, my plan was to do a little chalk painting, apply the transfer to the drawer fronts, and color it up all pretty 🎨 But as you can see, that didn't happen. Read on to see how I got this look that I call "Rustic Elegance in a Simplistic Way" and when my original vision took a turn....Ps....If you've never used transfers before, I do not recommend trying it first on a curvy area. It is extremely difficult to apply a transfer correctly on something that isn't a flat surface. You need to know how these work, know what to expect, and know how to work with them before applying to drawer fronts like these. Transfers are expensive and you don't want to waste your money! Practice on flat surfaces first. Do a few transfers before attempting this type of project 😉

Trash to Treasure – Serena & Lily Dupe

A friend/neighbor tipped me off that this bureau was on the curb waiting for the garbage trucks in our neighborhood, so I dragged my oldest son along in our golf cart to help me get it. He just loves when I do that. LOLThe piece was dated, as were the handles. It was also pretty dirty. It just needed a paint job and some TLC, and that is exactly what I gave it.Here is the before.

Boho Stenciled Dresser

This dresser started off in rough shape. It was painted almost completely black and not done well at that. I sanded the entire dresser down to the wood grain, except for the top. I only did a rough sanding on the top because I knew I would be repainting it. I rough sanded the top with an 80 grit sanding block and then a 120 grit sanding block. I used a combination of my power sander and hand sanding for the rest of the piece. Once I had everything sanded down the way I wanted it I stained the drawers and let them dry over night. After staining the drawers I used my stencil to apply a design to the front of the two larger drawers. I painted the base in between staining the drawers and adding the stenciled design.
