Mid Century Modern Dresser Makeover
You don’t see too many of these gorgeous pieces atthrift stores, but as soon as I walked in our local thrift store it was right there at the door and immediately I took the tag!
A brand new life!
I decided on a color. I chose a deep navy blue which just looks so lush. It almost has a velvet look, it has such a rich, Ralph Lauren look!
Before it gets to look amazing, I have to fix its flaws!
Here are some areas that the veneer came off.
Below is what I used to fill in these areas.
Using a plastic scraper, I applied the mixture to the areas to be filled, then let dry. I lightly sanded them down, then re-applied the mixture. Keep doing this until you have a smooth finish. The instructions are easy, just mix with water.
Some areas needed more.
Once I filled all of the areas in, I took them outside and lightly sanded them to prepare them for a paint.
I used a palm sander, it’s light and easy to use. I bought mine at Home Depot.
Now it’s ready for paint. I used a gorgeous color from behr called winter way. After the paint dried, I lightly sanded it all over, then applied verathane wax from the Home Depot to seal.
Once the wax dried, I polished it all over with my buffer.
The original handles are just gorgeous! I’m so glad they were all on the dresser when I purchased it.
It’s so elegant now! I must admit I didn’t like the paint when I started painting at first, but as it darkened I loved it.

There's no link to the paint in the materials list, is this chalk paint or trim/cabinet paint? What is the finish, flat or satin? Also, looks like a colored wax? Can you list exactly what you used? Thanks.
You did an incredible job and your color choice gives it a truly high end look & feel! It now is a statement piece and you should be so proud to change it up from the norm.
My only question is how many coats of paint did it take and did you skip the primer because of the dark blue color?
