Poolside Chairs

I wanted some nice robust chairs for the poolside, Wifey saw some she liked but they were over $1000 each, well I'm far too tight for that sooo..........
One of the finished chairs using tiles, I have made 2 different types but the same principles apply
Tools and materials

I used a chop saw, a circular saw, a drill/screwdriver, hammer, nails, screws, a square and ruler and pencil.

the wood 4x4 post, 4x2, 2x2, and exterior plywood, sizes are dependant on your cushion and tile sizes
Cut four lengths of 4x4 for legs, length depends on how tall you are, if your a hobbit make them short, if you are gigantor make them longer. Mine were 600mm (24").

Recess as shown for the 4x2 to mitre into ( I used the chopsaw but you can use a circular saw or chisel them out)
Cut the 2x4s a required to fit, as you can see there is a little nibble out of the side corners
Fit into the recesses and nail into place, being a delicate little bunny I used 4 inch nails!
Cut the top rails from 4x2 and make half lap joints, again I used the chop saw, but you can chisel etc if you prefer
Nail top rails into place, it is easier if you put the seat base in first at this point (I didn't and had to disassemble to get it in DOH!
Panel with plywood, all mine was rescued from a skip but is exterior quality from packing cases, Use plenty of screws
Now on the first ones I made I didn't do this but to key the tile cement cover the ply with wire mesh, again this was cast offs from a skip, I stapled it on with loads of staples (over 500 per chair) That mutha 'aint coming off!!
Tile! My first ones were tiled with pebbles, all stuck on individually - was it mind numbing, HELL YES. took about 2 days per chair but as we had a tropical storm coming through and the power was out I didn't have much else to do. Finished by torchlight!
The others I used sheets of tiles, much quicker especially with the help of the dogs
Decided to add castors to the blue ons as they are very heavy (about 60kg each) They were $30 a set, two of them swivel and lock
So a bit more progress, the tiles aren't an exact fit, and I don't want to mess about cutting loads so will fill the gaps with grout
And so there it is (the others below) I coloured the grout with food dye, (we'll see how that holds up!) and bought the cushions from a yacht chandler ($59 each) though I may get some blue ones
The black ones are a bit lower as no castors. And errrr that's it . Thanks for looking

Such a beautiful job! My question is how hot do the tiles get in the summer. I live in central California and our temperatures get over 100’

Its been a while since you made these. How have they stood up to the weather? Also, I wonder if doing them with just tile cement with some rough pattern would work.
