I can’t wait to show this transformation to you! I’ve been wanting to do one of these pieces for our store. We took this beautiful antique buffet:
We wanted to transform it into a kitchen island!
John ripped the top off and built a custom oak top that was a hard wood and could handle the abuse of kitchen use. Most buffets have just thin backer board on the back so we added shiplap on the back for visual interest and added supports off the back to hold the extended oak top.
With the extended top we now have seating for 3-4 bar stools (depending on their size).
Then to take it to the next level of adorable – we added new hardware, painted it with black enamel, abd msprayed it with a protective clear coat. If you’d like to see how we paint furniture, check out our post.
What a transformation!! Am I right?? This beauty is up on our website or in store for purchase.

This I like! saved the integrity and beauty of the piece and is also useful.
