I have been looking to get large concrete planters for a while, however, after discovering how expensive they are I decided to make my own. I felt confident in my ability to make them since I've worked with concrete before albeit on a smaller scale.
Check out the video above to learn how to make these Large Concrete Planters on your own! OR you could always just follow this step-by-step guide. No matter what you do I’m sure you’ll enjoy making them.

First, mark the height you want your pot to be. I made mine 10in (25cm).
Cut it.
Use a piece of cardboard to close the tube. Attach it to the tube with Gorilla tape.
This cheap nursery planter is going to be the inner mold.
I wanted my inner mold to be a little taller so, I'm going to attach a strip of heavy weight cardstock.
Use vegetable or motor oil and rub it on the exterior of the inner mold.
Mix the concrete and water. I use a ratio of 4:1 concrete: water. The consistency you want is similar to peanut butter.
Pour the mix into the mold.
Place the inner mold. Add some rocks to keep it in place. Let it dry outside for 24 hours.
When it's dry. Remove the rocks and cut the tube.
Be careful when removing the inner mold, you don't want to break the pot. Use a sanding sponge or an orbital sander to smooth the top area.
As you may have noticed I didn't add a drainage hole. I'm using
this pot inside so I want to avoid water on the floor.
Add some pebbles or packaging peanuts to the base to help with drainage.

What prevents concrete from going into the inner mold thru the drain holes it has?

Hi - this is exactly what I want to do. Assuming that one has some of the materials already (oil, plastic pots, buckets), what would you estimate to be the cost of one of the planters in this video?
