Easy way to "mount" your own hanging orchid garden :)
You will need:
Coconut liner
Coconut Compost
Water Storing Crystals
Jute Thread
Super Glue
Wood chips or bark
Orange net bag (or even nylon sock)

Mix Coconut Compost with Water Storing Crystals, Wood chips and water (not too much)
Make a sack out of Orange Net
Fill it up with the compost mix and сlose it by using a rubber band
Turn the compost ball upside down
Put orchid on top of the ball, gently spread orchid's roots around it and fix with soft cotton twine.
Put the ball on a thin layer of coconut liner
Fix the liner around the ball with jute twine.
Use some more jute twine to make "hanging basket"
Secure all knots with a tiny drop of super glue and cut off all ends
Secure all knots with a tiny drop of super glue and cut off all ends
Tadah!

How do you water that without getting a puddle of water on the floor?

Orchids roots need air, oxygen, this looks like so many layers . Do the roots make it out eventually if it doesn't die of rot rot? How long has yours been alive in ths? I really like orchids and 2 hooks up in my dining room that would be perfect for this, I was planning on hanging them but potted in a pretty container with just the wood chip's for orchids.

You are severely restricting its roots that need sunlight to grow

this orchid had only 3 roots then I bought it (it was very sad baby), air roots will grow in 2-3 months. This orchid is not my first one.
