Hi! I get the iron hot, with the reservoir full. Then I iron over an old, damp white washcloth until the residue comes off. Usually comes right off. If you have a lot of buildup a green scrubby, and a soft scrub (you can make a paste of baking soda) applied before you heat it up will get most of it off. Good luck and stay safe!

I understand that you are wanting to clean out the sediments that have accumulated inside the iron, due to minerals in hard water. Is this correct?
There may be some rust as well that has begun to build up around the individual steam holes.
If you are wanting to clean the bottom of your iron, then the best method will depend on what material (stainless steel, non-stick teflon) is on the surface.
Vinegar in the water chamber will help remove sentiment. Buy distilled water to use in the iron for future use. Tap water contains minerals that will accumulate inside the iron as it heats. The distilled water is sold at grocery stores for less than $1/gallon and it will last a LONG time. Dump the water out of the iron when you are done ironing. Don't store iron with water inside.
