Pet Stains on Hardwood Floors
Hardwood floor restore. Non-toxic, safe for pets, children, and you! Sometimes you get a not so nice surprise under your area rugs. We were on vacation and came home to find our geriatric cat had decided the litter box was too much trouble.
This lovely mess was waiting for us.
I first swept and wiped the area down. Then I poured peroxide over the blackened areas, straight from the bottle and let it sit for 15 minutes. You can scrub it around with a soft brush during this time, I did not.
After 15 minutes, cut a lemon in half and rub it over the stained areas. Let it dry completely. It only takes about 30 minutes.
As you can see, a second or third round of the peroxide would probably have removed it completely. We are putting a new area rug down, so until we restore the entire floor someday, this will do.
I wiped the area with wood soap.
Re-oiled and drying. The spots are nearly gone. One more round of the peroxide would have done it! Too bad I'm busy and impatient!

I think the cat was mad at you, not lazy!

Have a question about this project?
Can you use this method on varnished wood flooring or only unfinished hardwood?
Genius. I’m getting ready to redo my son’s room and there are water stains that have darkened the floor in spots. This is the solution I needed. Thank you!
If doing the peroxide more than once....is the lemon etc. done at the very end or is the lemon to be used immediately after the peroxide each time?
