How to remove sticky residue from wool carpet?
How to safely remove sticky residue from wool carpet. A contractor put plastic carpet protector on our wall to wall wool carpet. The sticky residue it left is awful and we had it professionally cleaned, twice. It is a dirt magnet. HELP!

Hi! This video may help. Did the contractor offer any help?

Hello. How unfortunate —-has the contractor offered any help for his damage under his watch? Perhaps the manufacturer of the protector might be contacted for best practice removal suggestions.
alternatively heres a link that might offer some options.

Goo Gone should work for you. Goo Gone is a miracle worker when it comes to removing sticky messes, makeup, wax, gum and even carpet stains. Once the stain or sticky mess is removed, however, the Goo Gone leaves behind a greasy residue that creates a mess of its own.

Yes, Goo Gone creates it's own mess, I would avoid it, here is a link with suggestions to try and see what happens, start in a small unnoticeable area:

I'd contact the carpet installer and ask.
You could use goo gone to take it off it stinks so you would need to have it cleaned after you will need to get on your hands and knees .or you could try in a small spot take a iron and a brown paper bag and iron a spot through the bag see if the sticky stuff comes off onto the paper .try in a small spot just in case.
The contractor is at fault. He should have known better. The carpet cleaners should have use a solvent safe for wool to remove the adhesive. Then clean the carpet to remove the adhesive and solvent. Once all is well send copies of your receipts to the contractor for reimbursement or threaten to sue.
Here are some tips on how to remove the sticky residue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9F9sQOGtjk
To lessen the risk of damage to your carpet, I’d follow William’s advice. I know the nightmare of folks becoming unprofessional and not accepting responsibility, it’s just the worst. Stay strong and fight for what you know is right.
Thank you all. Your suggestions and concern are most appreciated. The contractor has not responded to our latest email sent over a week ago. He will not meet with us face to face as we requested. In a holding pattern for now, with very sticky carpets. Carpet cleaners will not apply more solvents. The carpeting can delaminate if cleaned to frequently. I spot tested a small sticky area using the techniques outlined in suggestions and videos others sent. So far nothing has worked.
Happy fourth!🇺🇸
Hello,
Try Surgical Spirit, or Goo gone.
